Holme Lacy – Students Fundraising raises cash for Heartstart
Level 1 Land Based Students from the Holme Lacy Campus of Herefordshire and Ludlow College, organised and ran a fundraising event, to raise funds for Herefordshire Heartstart’s – Heartstart how to save a life courses.
Loraine Coleman, Co-ordinator/Project Manager for the charity says “I was impressed with the idea the students came up with of selling dog biscuits. I was pleased that they all worked together as a team to organise and manage their event.”
The students went to the Hereford Campus in Folly Lane and to the Holme Lacy Campus before Christmas and raised £39.60.
Loraine would like to thank all the students including their tutor Vince Stinton-Heeley, for inviting her to the College and for allowing her to deliver an Introduction to Heartstart.
Herefordshire Heartstart are extremely grateful to all the students, for taking the time to raise some much needed funds, so that we can continue to support the people of Herefordshire with these vital courses.
Loraine had been invited to the College to talk to the students about the work of the charity. Loraine gave a brief introduction to the charity and taught them the basics of Heartstart and gave a demonstration of cpr. Students were also able to have a go at hands-only cpr.
Students were given the option of attending one of the full two hour courses in the community at a later date, where they would be taught the full Heartstart course. At a two hour course they would learn rescue breaths and chest compressions (CPR), as well as dealing with an unconscious casualty, choking, serious bleeding and heart attack. These are simple skills that can and do save lives.
Anyone can attend a free two hour Heartstart course, or can book a course for their group.
Details of courses coming up in February can be found on our website www.herefordshireheartstart.org or by contacting Co-ordinator/Project Manager Loraine Coleman
If you would like to attend a public course or are interested in a course for your group, or could help by organising a fundraising event to support the charity, please email info@herefordshireheartstart.org or call 0845 60 60 654
