A volunteer instructor for a charity that is teaching lifesaving skills to thousands of people in Herefordshire is to do a fundraising 200 mile coast-to-coast walk.

Nicola Stock will embark on the Wainwright coast-to-coast in aid of Herefordshire Heartstart in May.

The 50 year old from the Kings Caple area of Herefordshire will begin on Friday 3rd May at St. Bees in Cumbria and will cover the distance to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire in twelve days.

She said: “In my late teens and early twenties I did quite a lot of long distance walking but work commitments since have made it difficult to find the time. I also had a period of about ten years where due to shoulder and back injuries sustained in a minibus accident I was unable to carry a backpack. Having recovered from an achilles tendon injury a friend of mine wanted a challenge, so I suggested the coast to coast. As I’m a volunteer instructor with Herefordshire Heartstart it seemed an obvious choice to use the walk as a fundraiser.”

Herefordshire Heartstart is a registered charity (no. 1082309) which is teaching lifesaving skills to thousands of people in the county with the support of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

It offers free two-hour courses to anyone aged 10 or over in techniques including CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), the management of severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, choking and chest pain.
