We are delighted to announce that Ewa Michalczyk has raised an amazing £2401 by running the Cardiff 10k on September 1st as a fundraiser for Herefordshire Heartstart.
In early 2019 John Greene, one of the directors at Border Oak, suffered a life threatening cardiac arrest. Prompt action by staff using the skills learned on the Heartstart course, while waiting for the emergency services to arrive, ensured that John was given the best chance of survival.
Ewa Michalczyk, an employee at Border Oak, decided to turn this traumatic experience into a positive. She believes that everyone should have the opportunity to attend a Heartstart course and learn the essential lifesaving skills that contributed to the survival of her employer. John continues to make good progress on his recovery journey.
Border Oak have also invested in a defibrillator that will be accessible to not just their employees but also the local community; meaning that the people of Kingsland will now have access to two public access defibrillators. She hopes that by sharing their story at Border Oak it will encourage more people to go on the training and ultimately save more lives.
Ewa’s money will be put to good use by Herefordshire Heartstart. It will enable us as a small local charity (who rely on fundraising and grants) to deliver further courses in local communities within Herefordshire.
