Monday 13th January 10.50am – Loraine Coleman, Herefordshire Heartstart
ACHIEVEMENT CERTIFICATES FOR LIFESAVING SKILLS USED
AMANDA INGRAM
Local Mum Amanda Ingram was recently presented with two Special Achievement Certificates, one from the British Heart Foundation and one from Herefordshire Heartstart for successfully using her Heartstart skills to clear her daughter’s airway when it became blocked with a coin.
It was lucky for 2 year old Natasha, that Amanda had attended a Heartstart course and learnt how to perform back blows and abdominal thrusts. These are lifesaving techniques which can help to clear a blocked airway.
Thankfully two back blows were all it took, for her daughter Natasha to cough up the 20pence piece.
Amanda said: “Thank you very much because I would have panicked even more. I felt more confident and happy with what I had to do.”
The certificates were awarded to Amanda in recognition of her actions when dealing with this emergency. Her confidence in using the Emergency Life Support skills demonstrates how useful the Heartstart course can be.
Amanda is seen with her daughter Natasha being presented with her certificates from Dr John Ballance, Medical Director and Chairman for Herefordshire Heartstart and Loraine Coleman, Co-ordinator/Project Manager for Herefordshire Heartstart.
Anyone can attend a two hour Heartstart course, which teaches how to deal with choking, loss of consciousness, serious bleeding, heart attack. The free two hour course also teaches how to perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
Anyone aged 10 or over can sign up to a Herefordshire Heartstart course. For more information, visit www.herefordshireheartstart.org or email info@herefordshireheartstart.org or contact the Co-ordinator/Project Manager Loraine Coleman on 0845 60 60 654.
